New Council Member Elected

New council member Janet E. Blattenberger was sworn into office during the reorganizational meeting. She was elected to the position during the November election, replacing Doreen Easly, who did not seek another term.
Two bills to exempt high tunnels from real estate taxes were unanimously approved by the Pennsylvania House and Senate and signed by the governor. Senate Bill 638 and House Bill 1439 ensured that high tunnel greenhouses are not categorized as real estate for tax purposes.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures dropped to eight degrees below zero on Tuesday, with wind chills falling to 34 degrees below zero the same day. The bitter cold temperatures forced area schools to close Tuesday and reported late Wednesday morning. Temperatures were on the rebound, however, as highs were expected to climb into the 40s on the weekend.
