Rail City Curling club is proud to announce a new home and partnership with the North Central Recreation Center in Ebensburg. The club has been calling Altoona’s Galactic Ice home since 2018 and once swelled to over 30 members with representation at curling Bonspiels through the Northeast US and in Canada. However, the club was relegated to ice time that was too late for many of our members. Fortunately, this new partnership puts us on track for us a bright future.
This is an exciting opportunity to grow as a club for those in Blair County thanks to a better time for curling. The North Central Recreation Center wants to see this sport to grow into something that will bring more people to a fun and inclusive sport at their facility.
Rail City will hold regular curling nights from 7:30pm until 9:30pm each Saturday evening. There will also be events for people to come and learn the sport in a safe manner with trained curling instructors. The first of these will be Saturday, January 27th at 7:00pm. For $35, people will get classroom instruction on the sport and safety tips before spending 90 minutes on the ice including a real game experience. All that is needed to enjoy is for people to wear comfortable warm layers of clothing and rubber-soled shoes. For more information and a link to the event, follow Rail City Curling on Facebook, or their web page. http://www.railcitycurling.com
Rail City Curling can host group and corporate team-building curling events. They are also looking for sponsors to help grow this fun and social sport in our region. The Ebensburg ice facility would like this to be a fun and safe alternative event to offer to the surrounding communities.
