Roadmaster Michael Fay had a lot on his agenda during last Thursday evening’s Catharine Township meeting. Fay discussed bidding on a loader from Ferguson Township. Fay said currently the bid was at $8,500, and he would like to talk to Ferguson about going to check out the equipment. Fay said the equipment would be used for loading salt and other projects in the Township. Chairman Heather Flaig made a motion to allow Fay to bid up to $15,000 if he deems the loader appropriate for the township’s needs. The motion passed.
There has been talk over the last several months regarding pipe replacement on Hemlock Road. The township’s engineering firm suggested using a metal arch pipe to move water from the road, and the piping they suggested would carry more water but would require the road to be built up. Supervisors tabled conversation until spring.
Fay said the number-one road to get repaired in spring would be Cross Valley and he estimated the project would cost roughly $45,000 to pave. Fay said he would look into estimates in April to repair the road. Fay asked for a pole light between Fox’s and Yellow Springs with an estimate of $800 for the pole and light.. Flaig made the motion to permit the pole light with a cost up to $1,000.
Fay said there were also some issues with line painting in the township, most notably Polecat Hollow. Before he painted any lines he said he wanted to talk to PennDOT and discussed attending their training course in late January to get answers on line painting.
Flaig said of the five positive responses for the ongoing River Front Drive project, she has received three of them. Flaig suggested she go out and visit with the two remaining holdout homes and “see if we can move forward.”
Flaig also said that if they would remain “no” votes, “the project would basically be a done deal.”
Flaig made a motion to adopt the 2024 budget with the millage increase of .941 to 1.41. The motion passed.
Flaig said she would be attending a Subdivision and Land Development course in March at a cost of $100 per person.
Supervisor Ralph Rispoli was absent from the meeting.
