Ruth Y. (Mock) Brown, 84, of York, formerly of Hopewell, passed away Dec. 12, 2023, at Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Woodbury; daughter of the late Albert Otis and Mary Alice (Wright) Mock. She married Willard Ray Brown on Aug. 1, 1959, at the Woodbury Methodist Church. Together, they celebrated 60 years of marriage until his passing Sept. 7, 2021.
She is survived by a son, Kelly Brown (Sandra) of Seven Valleys; son, Keith Brown (Effie Walters) of Loysburg; son, Kerry Brown of Pavia; grandchildren, Tiffany Di Benedetto, Jessica McGurk, and Kyle Brown; and great-grandchildren, Ava and Karter Brown, Cassandra Di Benedetto, and Luciana and Gavin McGurk.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Otis Mock, Jr.
Ruth was a 1957 graduate of Woodbury High School. She attended the Altoona Beauty School and was the owner/operator of Ruth Brown Beauty Salon for 43 years.
Ruth was a member of the Bedford Forge United Methodist Church, where she was involved with various committees and served as treasurer. She volunteered with the local food bank and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She and Ray enjoyed the time they spent with close friends Bob and Betty Ebersole and Herbie and LaRue Barnes traveling to the beaches and casinos.
A funeral was held Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at Stone Funeral Home in Woodbury, (www.stonefuneralhomewoodbury.com). Pastor Beth Pyles officiated. Interment took place at Dry Hill Cemetery.
