DAR Hears from America 250! Representative

The Adam Holliday Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met Dec. 9, 2023, in the Community room of the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library where the chapter celebrated its annual Christmas Party with a luncheon and gift exchange.

America 250! representative Nina Ritchey reported that the countdown clock has begun for the celebration on July 4, 2026. America250PA Blair County is a non-profit organization in need of volunteers, donations, sponsors, and ideas.

American Indian Chair Jayne Garver reported that Pocahontas (1596-1617), daughter of Powhatan, was a famous Native American woman associated with the Jamestown Settlement in Virginia. She was captured in 1613 and held by colonists, converted to Christianity, married John Rolfe and together had a son, Thomas. Known as the “Civilized Savage” she is buried at St. George’s Church in England.

Project Patriot Chair Dani Felty reported that 450 Christmas and thank-you cards were sent to “Hugs For Soldiers” for our American Troops who are deployed thousands of miles away from home.

Women’s Issues Chair Margaret Adams reported many Americans experience stress during the holidays, much of which is self imposed. One way to remedy this is to plan ahead by starting in January to put aside each week what you can spare to ease the financial burden for the following Christmas.

Service for America monthly donations were new snowsuits, winter coats, and accessories for the Toasty Toddler Program.

The next Adam Holliday Chapter meeting will be held on March 9, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library. All members and prospective members are welcome.
