The former Giant Eagle building in Roaring Spring was being renovated to accommodate two new retail stores that were expected to be open in May. Robert Rohrabaugh, one of the several family members who owned the property, appeared at the Roaring Spring Borough Council meeting to give an update on the plans for the property. A McDonald’s restaurant was scheduled to open the new week in the parking lots of the former supermarket. Rohrabaugh said work began on renovating the existing building. A 15-foot wide section of the east side of the building parallel with Route 36, was being torn down to add parking space. A new wall along this side of the building would be the storefronts for two businesses.

Construction was nearly finished on the new McDonald’s at Roaring Spring, and the opening was just a week away. The restaurant would open on Dec. 23 and the owners were planning games and prizes to help celebrate the opening.
