It has been said that one cannot spell Christmas without Christ. That is certainly true; but in our culture, we know that Christ has been getting squeezed out of his own holiday. Christmas as a Christian festival began around the 9th century. Of course, there is no way of knowing how people viewed it in those early days of the celebration, but we can assume that a higher majority of people acknowledged Jesus then.
