Aspiring Editor Visits The Herald Office

Sarah Barley, 8, visited the Herald office with her mother Erin to learn about newspapers and their production.

Sarah is planning to start her own neighborhood newspaper in Roaring Spring. The third-grader is aiming for Jan. 10 as her first publication date. She sent out surveys to her neighbors for a "Neighbor Bios" section and said she thinks she would like a three-page paper.

Sarah prepared a list of questions for Editor Anna Baughman Miller that focused on layout and design and the process of editorial work.

While learning about different types of editorial work, Sarah said she wants to be a book editor when she's older. She's an avid reader and has read around 200 books (or more) from July to December. She is currently enjoying the "Bailey School Kids" series and likes to read mysteries.

Our editor had the best time getting to know Sarah and Erin, and she can't wait to see Sarah's first publication.
