The lack of rainfall in the Cove since the late summer is beginning to cause serious concern among many local residents and water officials. Some private wells in Ganister, Clover Creek and McKee have run dry. Communities in the Southern Cove have asked customers to conserve water.

The drought has raised concerns for forest fires in the area. The dry conditions forced the fire hazard to a very serious level, according to Blair County Emergency officials. Local firefighters have been called to several brush fires in the area, but were able to contain them.
