Fall, Winter Events to be Hosted by Historical Society

Kate Rimbeck from the Historical Society announced the fall and winter events taking place at the Baker Mansion.

On Nov. 15, the society will have the final installment for the year of its lecture series featuring “Altoona in Photos 1968-1971 Part II: AHS Railroad Areas Before Urban Development” by Dr. Michael Farrow. This event will be held at the Hawthorne Building, Penn State Altoona Campus at 7 p.m.

A tree lighting ceremony will take place on Nov. 17. This will be the lighting of the outside tree, according to Rimbeck.

“Our Christmas tours begin the week before because our Christmas trees will be up the first weekend,” Rimbeck said. “[For the tree lighting ceremony] we will have a concert with caroling. A tree on the balcony of the mansion will be lit for Christmas.

Rimbeck added that the group will have a bus trip to Mifflinburg Christkindl Market on Saturday, Dec. 16. This is a fundraiser for the historical society.

On Dec. 9 and 16, there will be a concert in the evening. Gospel band “3 for 1” will perform Christmas songs on Dec. 9.

Santa Claus will make appearances on the weekends during the Christmas tours.
