Northern Bedford High School Principal Shawn Cerully said the school valued its rapport between area businesses and NBC students. These companies have provided students with jobs in Bedford County paying good wages. Cerully said visitors come into the school from colleges or the military recruiting the students, and the school wants to provide that opportunity to area businesses to talk with students and recruit them as well.
The students obtained real world experience while learning in a classroom. The students built a greenhouse, which was a great learning experience. Miss Kensinger, horticulture instructor, said it was great to get her students off school grounds to see how things are actually done.
In the Cooperative Education Program, all students that went on a co-op last year left high school with a job: 35 percent of all NBC seniors were full time CTE, 47 percent of all juniors, and 33 percent of all sophomores.
CTE courses include agriculture, automotive, building, and horticulture. The CTE programs challenge students to think critically and create an environment that allows many of the students to work locally.
