Annual Convention Held

Herald of Oct. 20, 1898

Sixty-seven Mennonites, men and women, arrived at the depot on the 2:50 train Wednesday to attend the annual Sunday school convention of the District of Southwestern Pennsylvania which convened in the Mennonite church southeast of Martinsburg. The church here is flourishing under the pastorate of Rev. Abram Metzler.

M. L. Ketner had his right arm blown off at the Juniata stone quarries at Carlim by the premature explosion of a blast. He was taken to Altoona Hospital where the arm was amputated below the elbow.

The American Cineograph will be exhibited in Roaring Spring in the Odd Fellow hall Friday and Saturday evenings next.

The Curryville school house contains quite a collection of beautiful plants. Some of the different species we may mention are the following: geraniums, Kenilworth ivy, oxalis, lily, begonias, pansy, coleus, ageratum and cactus. The teacher is under obligation to the pupils for furnishing many of the plants.
