Nelson D. Metzger Honored at Annual Golf Fundraiser

Labor Day weekend’s perfect weather allowed for the 28th annual Nelson D. Metzger Memorial Basketball Fundraiser to take place at the Down River Golf Course in Everett.

This year’s scramble format tournament featured 116 participants, playing for prizes, fun and fellowship as Nelson Metzger’s memory was preserved and honored, once again.

Each year, a Central High senior basketball player is selected by the coaching staff to receive a scholarship in Nelson’s honor. This year’s recipient was Eli Lingenfelter. The scholarship fund is maintained through the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation.

Following the tournament there was a luncheon and an award ceremony. As usual, a wonderful time was had by all.

A special note of thanks to the Steve Metzger family for provided the requisite leadership and the Down River Country Club for the use of their facility. And not to forget the supportive players, who have returned year after year to support the Nelson D. Metzger Scholarship Fund.

Diligent plans are “in the works” for the 29th tournament over Labor Day weekend 2024.

The 28th annual NDM Tournament winners were Down River Golf Course’s “Barn Crew” (15 under par) (tie-breaker) and Curt Piper, Ashley Albright, Jordan Albright, and Steve Beach (15 under par).
