Rails to Trails Receives Grant

Rails to Trails of Blair County received a $50,000 private grant to expand the trail westward toward Canoe Creek State Park. The expanded trail would follow the old railroad bed from the existing trailhead to Ganister and beyond. RTT representatives attended the Williamsburg Borough Council Meeting to ask for an easement through Riverside Park.

Three Cove-grown pumpkins were among the top five winners at the annual Great Pumpkin Weigh-off at Sam’s Club in Altoona. A pumpkin grown by Robert Ferry of Martinsburg weighed 758 pounds and tied for second place. Marvin Hicks of Williamsburg took fourth place with a 745 pound pumpkin, and Dale Mellott took fifth with a 695 pound pumpkin. The winning pumpkin weighed 815 pounds and was grown in Spangler.

The Central High School band competed in the Roof Garden Festival of Bands in Somerset and earned first place in its group with best music and best marching.
