Funeral Held

Burgess C. Guy Barley died at Nason Hospital as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. A funeral was held at the Barley home on East Allegheny Street with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Six war veterans acted as pallbearers, carrying his body to its final resting place. Martinsburg business places were closed during the service.

Martinsburg Council President Claude C. Barnard will step in as burgess until borough council appoints Col. Barley’s successor. Burgess Barley’s death also leaves vacant the position of Justice of the Peace.

The Williamsburg Civic Club is interested in starting a free public library. Williamsburg council has granted use of a room in the municipal building.

The body of Cpl. Max L. Green of Roaring Spring was returned from the Philippines for burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. Cpl. Green was killed in action over Luzon in February 1945.
