The Sheetz Distribution Center warehouse expansion project is close to breaking ground, the township’s engineer reported. The company still needs a developer’s agreement with the township before it can begin.
The engineer recently received plans from Sheetz, Inc. to restore the Sarah Furnace property and from ABCD Corp. to subdivide a business park parcel for A. Duie Pyle. They will be reviewed at a future meeting.
Jordan Oldham, board chair and road foreman, said work has been completed on Railroad Street and Left Hand Gap Road, including the replacement of pipes. He would like to see those roadways paved next year.
During a recent meeting, supervisors considered buying new Christmas light displays to hang on light poles along roadways. Oldham said he recently discovered that several light mounts disappeared when the electric poles they were on were replaced during construction projects in the township. He said he will see if new ones can be obtained or else fewer displays will be needed.
New tasers have been deployed to police officers certified to use them, said Ronald Sharkey, police chief. The units are a “de-escalation tool,” that could save a life, he said.
The board received a request from Erika Mock to create a community events coordinator position to organize small community events throughout the year. Supervisors said there are already some organizations holding events in the community, but they would support her serving in this unofficial role as a volunteer.
Supervisors made a $150 donation in support of the Claysburg Area Farm Show.
