Five members of the Central High Golf team represented their school this past Thursday in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference Individual Championships at Summit County Club.
Griffin Snowberger came home with the championship, shooting a 74 to edge out Tyrone’s RJ Royer by a single stroke.
Paired together in the lead foursome, the two battled back and forth in a close match that saw Snowberger take the early lead with birdies on three of the first four holes.
Royer stormed back on the early part of the back nine with two birdies of his own and eventually took a one-stroke lead.
A costly double bogey on hole 15 gave the lead back to Snowberger with three holes to play.
With pars on the final 3 holes, Snowberger was able to secure the victory.
Central’s Nick Baum, the 2022 LHAC tournament champion, finished with a final score of 80, good enough for a sixth place medal.
Bryton Barnes carded his best score of the year, with an 83, while Cody Clapper posted an 85. Zach Oakes finished with an 89.
The Central Dragons Golf team will continue post-season play at the District VI 2A sectional tournament, with an opportunity to qualify for the team and individual district championship tournaments.
