Richard Eugene Boor

Woodbury

Richard Eugene Boor, 72, passed away Aug. 5, 2023, at UPMC hospital after an extended battle with cancer.

Mr. Boor is the son of Hillary Boor and Edna (Henry) Boor of Woodbury.

Mr. Boor is survived by his son Spencer Boor; grandson Colton Rhodes; brother George and his wife Gaynell (Melius) Boor and sister Donna (Boor) Dodson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca (Tenley) Boor, his daughter Susanne (Boor) Smith, his sister Monna (Boor) Butler, sister Alice Boor and both his parents.

He was born at the original Roaring Spring hospital, and graduated from Northern Bedford High School in 1969.

As a young man Richard grew up working on his family’s farm which taught him the value of hard work. As a teenager his and his best friend Jack Butlers’ attention quickly turned to all things fast and motorized and spent a few years dirt track racing at Bedford Speedway and a couple other local tracks.

He was employed as a mechanic for Steve Miller’s garage during the early 70s where he spent a few years earning the reputation of being one of the best mechanics in the area back then. It was here he met the woman who became the love of his life because of a flat tire. After this he moved on to become a truck driver and then eventually moved on to equipment operator at New Enterprise Stone and Lime from which he retired after many years.

His biggest hobby was loving his family and providing for them the American dream. One of the things that made him the happiest was finding ways to make his grandson smile. He will be dearly missed.

A funeral was held Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, the Akers Funeral Chapel. Pastor Rob Reed officiated. Burial will be held privately.
