Peace Protocol Signed

Secretary Day and M. Cambon of Spain signed a peace protocol ending the war with Spain. Manila was bombarded by Dewey on Saturday and surrendered unconditionally. The rough riders with General Joe Wheeler and Colonel Roosevelt landed at Montauk Point and are in quarantine. Some men were so weak they were hardly able to walk.
One of the annoyances that greet our ears almost every night, is the effort to wake up the boys of the livery stable when teams come in. A solid half hour has been put in before the boys could be aroused. We suggest a night bell over the boys’ heads about the size of a 10 cent crock.
Miss Bessie Garner of Saxton, niece of merchant G. M. Garner, was a visitor for a few days. Miss Bessie returned to her home with the loss of 16 teeth, skilfully extracted by the village dentist.
John S. Guyer of the southern end of the Cove will have about seven hundred bushels of peaches this season. He expects to realize $1.25 per bushel.
