Tractor Pull Has to Halt for Heavy Rain
On July 15, the Southern Cove Power Reunion held its Antique Construction Equipment and Truck Show on Saturday, July 15, starting at 9 a.m. This show was great for history buffs and those who love old equipment and how it ran in the past. The group put on a show on the field grounds moving dirt with various pieces of equipment. There were many pieces on display such as a CAT 10 192 from a New Jersey Potato Farm and a 1939 Murphy Diesel owned by George Dell of Martinsburg.
This activity drew a crowd who came to observe what was on display and what was working. This has become a popular event and children are learning firsthand how things were done years ago and how innovation has improved equipment used today.
This was also a tractor pull and there was quite a crowd who came to watch the pull that started at 4 p.m. It was a beautiful but warm day for this event. Folks were able to purchase new items such as decals, license plates and clothing at the pull.
The club kitchen was very busy with some new items such as pecan pie, strawberry cheesecake, cantaloupe and watermelon. The food lines were steady with the chicken basket still being the most popular item sold.
A rainstorm brought a great evening of socialization, excitement and fun to a halt. This happened around 9:30 and the track had to be shut down and the event canceled as the rain was just too heavy and made the track too wet.
Raffle tickets will continue to be sold for an International Harvester given away at the September three-day event from Sept. 15, 16 and 17. There are other smaller items that are also among this raffle. Gun raffle tickets are also being sold for this day.
Vendors are being accepted for the fall show. If you are interested call Barb Detwiler at (814) 494-2040.
