Wheat Harvest Poor

Cove farmers this week were harvesting a “poor” crop of wheat, but there were prospects for an “exceptionally good” harvest of tomatoes and a “good looking” corn crop. Weight per measured bushel of wheat was as low as 45 pounds, when it should be at 60 pounds. Last year’s wheat harvest was a bumper crop.

The relocated and improved section of highway located between Williamsburg and Ganister will be treated with a black top, the work to be started within a few days, according to the State Highway Department.

AAA-Sponsored auto races on Saturday will bring the cream of the nation’s drivers to the Bedford Fair. They include Bill Holland, Ted Horne, Joie Chitwood and many others who have thrilled the crowds before.

Rural lines of the Pennsylvania Electric Company were extended 170 miles during the first six months of the year, making electric service available for the first time to 1391 rural residences and farms.
