Store Celebrates Anniversary
Herald of July 25, 2013
The Roaring Spring Department Store: True Value celebrated its 150th anniversary. The store opened in 1863 under the name D.M. Bare & Co. as a company store. A.D. Mingle became manager in 1915, and the store has been owned by the Mingle family since 1941. The store is a rarity because it is independently owned and operated, allowing management to keep the store’s stock relevant to local needs.
Wilbert L. “Will” Ketner died at the age of 91 in Harrisburg. Mr. Ketner was a native of Roaring Spring, and was well known in the area for his work at local radio stations until the mid-1960s when he moved to Harrisburg. There he worked in the state government, retiring in 1987 as personnel director of the House of Representatives. He was a veteran of World War II, and volunteered with the American Heart Association.
A stone memorial in honor of former commander Raymond “Dick” Myers, Jr. was dedicated by Ray-Camp Post 7689. Myers was credited with keeping the post open during difficult times in early 2000s.
