‘Edge of Dusk’ By Colleen Coble

Annie Pederson was nine years old when she and her sister Sarah were playing on the dock. They lived on Lake Superior and the loons were out on that dark evening. Sarah was only five and Annie always felt protective of her little sister. So, when Sarah was snatched by two kidnappers, Annie felt responsible.

Twenty-four years later, Annie still hoped to find what happened to her little sister. If some remains were found nearby which fit the age of her sister, she submitted her sister’s DNA in hopes of finding her sister. So far, there were no leads. Her father, mother and husband, Nate, had died in a boating accident. Annie only had her daughter, Kylie, left. Annie and Kylie lived at the Tremolo Marina and Cabin Resort which Annie’s parents had owned. Annie managed the Marina and Cabin Resort. She also had another job as a LEO (law enforcement officer) or ranger. She was working with the Sheriff on a nine-year-old cold case. There were two teenagers who were missing and one was the judge’s daughter.

Kylie was not growing as fast as she should. Dr. Ben Eckright diagnosed Kylie as having celiac disease. She would have to follow a glutton free diet. Annie wasn’t sure what to do. How would Kylie grow up unable to eat the things her friend could including her favorites like pannukakkua or pulla? Annie was determined to make the change as easy as possible for her daughter.

Jon Dunstan arrived in town. His father had a stroke. Jon was there to fix up the family cabin and sell it. Jon was a successful orthopedic surgeon. He had left the area to pursue his career after his mother died. Unfortunately, Jon was the last one known to see the two teenager who were missing. There was still some suspicion that he might have been involved.

Annie knew Jon was not responsible. She and Jon had been engaged years ago but it ended when Jon left town to pursue his career. Jon hoped to renew his relationship with Annie but there were some hurtles. Annie was working on the investigation of the girls and she could not let her feelings interfere with her investigation. Plus, Kylie strongly resented Jon there. She missed her father so much. Would Jon end up going back home or stay nearby for Annie? How could Jon and Annie clear his name?
