Roaring Spring

Roger Dwight Smith of Roaring Spring, passed away June 26, 2023, in Martinsburg, due to a sudden illness.

Dwight was born June 29, 1976, the son of Roger L. Smith and Gloria Jean (Reese) Smith. He was a 1993 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, and attended Pennsylvania State University. He earned the Eagle Scout award from Roaring Spring Troop #539 and received the Keystone Award as a member of his high school FFA chapter. Mr. Smith carried on his father’s business legacy as the owner of Smith’s Self Storage and Smith’s Used Cars of Duncansville.

Dwight enjoyed raising animals and during his lifetime his menagerie included dogs, rabbits, peacocks, exotic poultry and yaks. He was a voracious reader who took pleasure in spending time outdoors and attending auto auctions. He was proud of his vegetable garden and, along with his father, took delight in canning fruits and vegetables and gifting them to others.

He is survived by his mother, Gloria Jean (Reese) Smith of Duncansville, and many cousins on the Smith and Reese sides of the family.

He was predeceased by his father.

He will be buried at Fairview Cemetery in Martinsburg. There will be no public burial service. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodbury Lodge #539 F&AM of Roaring Spring.

Dwight adored his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins and valued his friends. He loved life and his family lit up our world. His family and friends were always in his heart. His death leaves a hole that nothing will fill, but his love leaves memories that death cannot steal.
