Historical Society Going Forward in Williamsburg

For over a year, board members of the Williamsburg Historical Society have been looking to become a 501.c.3 nonprofit organization. During last Wednesday’s meeting, that wish came true. Cathy Over, who has been instrumental in the makings of the historical society, announced that the group was approved for a 501.c.3, all thanks to the help of Attorney Michael Routch.

“I like the way he wrote things up,” History Society Board Member Roane Lytle said.

Over then presented the bylaws for the group to look over. Some verbiage needs to be edited for the number of directors on the board and the addition of a vice president position when the president is absent from the meeting. Lytle made a motion to approve bylaws with Lugene Shelly seconding. The motion passed.

When it came to announcing the members of the board of directors, Harry Mullins withdrew his name from the group, saying he felt a “conflict of interest” when he has a lot of memorabilia the group may want in the future. The other members who were not present at the meeting were to be asked before appointing the complete board of directors. Four officers were accepted at the meeting: President Marge Troxell, Vice President Cathy Over, Secretary Peggy Mingle and Treasurer Lugene Shelly.

The library board announced that it would charge the Historical $500 per month rent for the space below the library, which will house the Williamsburg memorabilia collected, and for those to visit. The carpeting and painting is complete downstairs and the Historical Society is hopeful to get things moving soon.

The Historical Society is currently looking for any monetary donations, checks or cash. If you would like to send to the Williamsburg Historical Society Inc., please make payment to that group and mail checks or cash to 511 West Second Street, Williamsburg, PA 16693. The group is not accepting any donations of Williamsburg artifacts or memorabilia at this time.
