Zoning Ordinance Working

Martinsburg’s new zoning ordinance appeared to be working according to officials. One of the biggest problems for residents was understanding what types of work required a permit. The zoning officer had issued 23 permits to date.

The cereal leaf beetle was a serious threat to oats fields in the Cove. Five or six farmers reportedly had fields sprayed by helicopter in an effort to destroy the larvae. Robert Hetrick, Blair County farm agent, said the larvae were found throughout Blair county.

Roaring Spring Police Chief Joseph Robinson Jr. and Martinsburg Police Chief Ivan E. Hoover attended the Region IV Institute on Police Service and the Parole System institute on June 27 at the Johnstown Campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

A truck heavily damaged two parked cars when it crashed into them in front of 404 S. Market St., Martinsburg Tuesday evening. The cars were owned by D. Glenn Longenecker and Mrs. Charles Sell, both of Martinsburg.Total damage to both cars was estimated at $1,300.
