Neighbors of Curryville: the Kauffmans and Hoovers

The next place was the Dewey Kauffman barn. Dewey often permitted me to come and see a newly born sheep or something new he got. They had a walkway from the barn to their house with rose harbors for the entrance to their side door. They did not use their front door nor did I ever see anyone go in their house except through the side porch.

Mrs. Florence Kauffman would sometimes have me take a one hundred dollar bill to Curry Supply to pay their feed bill. That was a big responsibility and I was so frightened that I would lose it on that long walk there. I notice now that it is just two houses a...
