Livestream Gives View of Progress
As construction on the Clayburg-Kimmel Athletic Project continues, the district has set up a way for residents to keep up with its progress without traveling to the site. With two cameras overlooking the fields, the district is livestreaming the progression of the construction.
Business Manager Dena Burket said the live stream is accessible through the district's website, cksdbulldogs.com, where there is an "Athletic Project" link.
"There are two different camera views where you can see the fields and the progress of the work," Burket said. "It's really nice and the fields look awesome. The colors are so vibrant."
While it was hoped that spring sports would be able to be played at the new baseball field, ongoing work at other areas of the complex presents a safety hazard for players and fans.
"With the contractors and their equipment still being on site, it is a liability issue," Burket said. "The fields look like they are ready to go but there is still work going on."
Burket said the girls' softball team is playing their home games at the Claysburg Little League field and the varsity baseball team's home games are at the junior high field located at the elementary school.
Burket said the hope is that enough of the work will be done in time for the football team to play its home games there this fall.
"We hope to be playing our home football games here this fall, but it's not going to happen for any remaining baseball and softball games this season," she said.
Burket said that while the athletic complex will be visually impressive, there are things you can't see that puts it ahead of other fields. She said the drainage system that is installed could limit the number of games postponed due to rain.
"The drainage on these fields is so good that we will probably be able to play games that other schools would have to postpone," she said. "The drainage is amazing."
Burket said that once it is complete, Claysburg is going to have a facility that will put its sports programs on a new level, and that it is already attracting outside interest for its use.
"It is going to be a beautiful facility when it's done," she said. "We are excited, and we are excited to host some other events here."
