Ceremonies Held for New Post

Herald of May 20, 1948

Members of the D. Merl Tipton Post, No. 43, Veterans of Foreign Wars, held ground-breaking ceremonies for its new home in Martinsburg. Post Commander Cecil Wierman turned the first spadeful of sod in the three lots purchased last week at Penn and Nicodemus streets, opposite the North Woodbury Grange Hall.

The Martinsburg School Board voted to sponsor supervised recreational activities in the Morrisons cove Park this summer. The program will probably begin after Daily Vacation Bible School has ended.

J. Robert Kauffman and Freda L. Wineland were each awarded $10 for being the best all-around boy and girl in the Morrison Cove High School Class of 1948.

Light frost touched some gardens in Morrisons Cove Wednesday morning, and throughout the day a strong, cold wind prevailed. This followed the abundant rain of the weekend which had kept the ground well saturated.
