The Dragon Baseball team faced two opponents this week: the Penn Cambria Panthers and the Bedford Bisons. A 15-5 victory over the Panthers and a 7-2 victory over the Bisons cemented the Dragons at a 12-2 record at the week’s end.
Against the Panthers, the Dragons jumped to an early seven-run lead, scoring four in the first and three in the second. After scoring one in the third, the Panthers brought it to a two-point game in the top of the fifth before the Dragons responded with seven runs to take control of the game. Jeff Hoenstine hit a walk-off single to score the run that plunged the game into mercy-rule territory, signaling the Dragons’ victory. Hoenstine had two other hits and two additional RBIs throughout the game, while Kyle Klotz and Dalton Metzger each had three hits and Britton Marko drove in three runs.
Against the Bisons, Mason Byler led the Dragons on the mound for the complete game, only giving up a mere two runs in the final inning of Bedford’s offense. The Dragons drove in three in the first inning, followed by another two in the third. Another run in each of the fourth and fifth innings capped the Dragons’ scoring for the night. Baron Dionis and Eli Muthler each had two hits, while Marko also had two hits along with three RBIs. Hoenstine added three hits as well in the Dragons’ victory.
The Dragons will now face the Tyrone Golden Eagles and the Johnstown Trojans in the upcoming week.
