A. Donald Mingle

Martinsburg

Born on Dec. 12, 1929, A. Donald Mingle, of Martinsburg, passed away April 28, 2023.

Donald was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Roaring Spring, son of the late, Ammon D. and Lodie (Wolfe) Mingle.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alma (Raugh). Also surviving are three sons to his former wife, Barbara (Stenger): A. David (Laurel) of Havertown; Daniel (Cindy) of South Paris, Maine; Douglas (Jo Ellen) of Martinsburg. Also two stepchildren: Randy Guyer (Dianna) and Karen Blattenberger (Daniel) all of Martinsburg; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by sisters Phyllis Wineland, Violet Shaffer, Doris Rex, and Jeanne Hoy and by a great-grandson, Melchior John Wint Cringle.

Donald was an active Boy Scout, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Roaring Spring High School in 1947 and then attended Mercersburg Academy. He graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1952. After graduation he became manager, then succeeded his father as owner, of the Roaring Spring Department Store, which continues as Roaring Spring True Value Hardware under the ownership of Douglas and JoEllen Mingle. The store was inducted into the Blair County Business Hall of Fame in 2001.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Roaring Spring, Woodbury Masonic Lodge, and Jaffa Shrine. He was a former longtime member of Roaring Spring (now Morrisons Cove) Rotary Club. His hobbies included gardening, orcharding, hunting, bicycling, camping, and tennis, and he was an avid reader. He loved local high school sports and was a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, having attended a World Series game in Pittsburgh in 1960.

At the request of the deceased there will be no public viewing. Interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roaring Spring at the convenience of the family. A public celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

Donald requested that Memorial Contributions in his name be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 434 E. Main St., Roaring Spring, PA 16673 or Garver Memorial YMCA, 820 Grove St., Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
