Apples are in Full Bloom

It’s apple blossom time in the Cove. The blossoms will still be on the trees this weekend, but all varieties except Romes will be past their peak according to veteran orchardist Edwin Bridenbaugh. Bridenbaugh said conditions were ideal for pollination–fairly warm and sunny–before the rain moved in.

Martinsburg Borough Council formally annexed the Wineland tract east of Oakdale Road at their monthly meeting. The tract, more than 30 acres in all, covers the area between Oakdale Road and Hoover Drive, including the site of the borough’s wells. The tract is being laid out in building lots according to the plans presented on behalf of the owner, Mrs. Fannie Wineland

The Claysburg Volunteer fire Company raised. $7,500 for a new fire hall in a recent building fund drive in Greenfield and Kimmel townships.The company was looking for volunteers to complete the inside work.

Jerome Conlon, son of Mr. and Mrs Joseph Conlon of Roaring Spring, is competing on the Lock Haven State College varsity track team this spring.
