Dragon Baseball: Moving Forward

After the Dragons hit a slump in the Curve Classic, they rebounded well, crushing all of their opponents in their next week of games. A 15-5 victory over the Chestnut Ridge Lions, 15-0 victory over the Bishop Carroll Huskies and 9-6 victory over the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers left the Dragons 3-0 for the week.

Against the Lions, the Dragons jumped to an early lead right off the bat, scoring five in the first inning followed by seven in the second. Another one in the third and two more in the fourth finalized the Dragons’ scoring, while only giving up a few runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the victory. Kaleb Mountain was the winning pitcher, striking out seven in the Dragons’ defensive game. On the offensive side, Jeff Hoenstine had two doubles and two RBIs, while Griffin Snowberger had three hits. Baron Dionis had three hits and four runs scored, while Britton Marko scored three. Kyle Klotz had three RBIs, Dalton Metzger had two hits, including a triple, and Lukas Black had two hits and three RBIs.

Against the Huskies, the Dragons had the same great start, scoring two in the first inning, then five in the second. A scoreless third inning allowed the Dragons to score eight in the fourth, ending the game in a run-rule victory. Pitcher Mason Byler threw a complete shutout for the Dragons. Dionis and Marko each had two hits and two RBIs for the Dragons, while Luke Bettwy had three, and Metzger knocked in two runs as well.

Against the Hilltoppers, Dionis was the winning pitcher, striking out six in five innings of work. In that time, the Dragons gave up two runs while scoring four in the first, two in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Dragons nearly dropped the ball, giving up four runs in the final inning of the game. Hoenstine, Dionis, Marko, and Black all had two hits in the Dragons’ offensive victory. Metzger had two hits, including a triple, and knocked in four runs for the Dragons.

Overall, now 10-2, the Dragons prepare to face the Penn Cambria Panthers, the Bedford Bisons, and the Central Cambria Red Devils in the upcoming week.
