Joseph Harkins

On April 23, 2023, Joseph Harkins passed beyond this world into the presence of his Heavenly Father.

Joe married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Gloria, having recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Always treasuring family together, they raised the joy of their lives, five children: Joshua Harkins (wife Jill), Joseph Harkins, Jamie Long (husband Darryl), Jeremy Harkins (wife Lindsay), and Jonathan Harkins (wife Kaila).

In addition to their children, Joe is survived by seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1946, to Joseph and Wilhelmina (Wurster) Harkins who are all now reunited in heaven.

He is survived by his sister Jackie Harkins Kulp (husband, Neil), and a brother, Rob (wife, Sherie).

Joe was first and foremost a man of God, wisdom, and conscience. With child-like enthusiasm, he felt deeply and loved fiercely. As a certified financial planner, he served his clients. As a U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran, he served his country. As a Husband, Father, Brother, and Friend, he served us all.

In his final years, he could be described as the “man-behind-the-scenes,” living simply, loving quietly, and listening intently to all, but mostly the voice of his Father…calling him home.

John 14:1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you…I will come back and take you to be with me…”

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May his face shine upon you and be gracious to you…and give you peace, forever. Shabbat Shalom

Visitation with friends and family will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. As his life has impacted so many, the family asks that you share your story and/or pictures of how Joe has impacted your life by e-mailing inmemoryofJosephHarkins@gmail.com.
