A Roaring Spring man is in jail accused of breaking into a Roaring Spring business two times in less than a week. Harley Sims, 21, is being charged with breaking into the Puff Super Value on April 16, and again on April 19.
According to Hollidaysburg State Police, troopers were first called to the business at around 11:15 p.m. on April 16 for a report of a shattered front door. When police arrived, they discovered that someone used a chair to break the glass door and stole vape products and tobacco.
On April 19, at approximately 2:20 a.m., police were called back to the business for another burglary report and found someone again gained entry by breaking the glass door. While investigating the burglaries, police found drops of blood on the broken glass and while viewing store video of the burglaries determined the suspect in both incidents was wearing similar clothing, shoes, and hair style.
During the investigation, police received information that Sims was a possible suspect and went to his East Main Street residence to talk to him. Police said when Sims opened the door, they noticed dried blood and injuries on both of his hands, and he was wearing similar clothing as the person seen on the store video.
Police said Sims appeared nervous and was shaking when questioned and allegedly told police the cuts on his hands were caused by a wrench and screwdriver while working on his car. Police said Sims could not provide them with the tools in question.
Police said Sims eventually confessed to both burglaries and said he broke into the business to steal vape and other products to sell them as a means to make money.
Sims is facing felony burglary, as well as misdemeanor theft and criminal mischief charges. He was arraigned by Altoona Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Jones and placed in Blair County Prison on $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today, April 27, in front of Martinsburg Magisterial Judge Andrew Blattenberger.
