Jerre L. Bassler

Jerre L. Bassler, 68, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Martinsburg, passed away unexpectedly late Sunday, April 9, 2023, at his home.

He was born May 29, 1954, in Roaring Spring, son of the late James Weldon “Brub” and Mary Irene (Brumbaugh) Bassler.

Jerre was a 1972 graduate of Central High School, where he participated in band and chorus.

He is survived by his brother, Jim Bassler (Mid) and a sister-in-law, Jolene G. Bassler.

Jerre was a special uncle to his surviving five nieces and nephews: Donna Kimmich (Greg), Debbie Knee, Kevin Bassler (Janis), Dusty Bassler (Kelly), and Derek Bassler. He is also survived by a great-niece, Alyssa Bassler; four great-nephews: Zachary and Ethan Kimmich and Austin and Andy Bassler; and his best friend, Brad Reed and his family.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald E. Bassler.

Over the years, Jerre worked as a parts manager at various businesses, including: Wineland’s Equipment, Feathers and Roub Service Center, Allegheny Fork Lift, and Forsheys.

Currently, he was a part owner and employed at New Specialty Lift in Hollidaysburg, and was a “direct jobber” distributor of Amsoil products for 40 years.

Jerre was an avid fan of volleyball. He played in numerous recreational leagues over the years, and coached both girls and boys volleyball teams at Central High School. He founded the Central Boys Volleyball program and was the head varsity coach for many years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed racing snowmobiles and was an avid collector of vintage Viking snowmobiles. He was also a collector of diecast toy farm equipment.

He was an active member and sponsor of Miracle League of Blair County, and was an avid historian on his family history/genealogy and Morrisons Cove history.

Jerre was a lifelong member of the Republican party and a huge Donald Trump supporter.

He was proud of his family, to be from “The Cove” and to be an American. He was a true patriot.

A funeral took place Friday, April 14, 2023 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, (www.bolgerfuneralhome.com).

Pastor Mark Lingenfelter officiated. Interment was held at Brumbaugh Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
