Campsite Could Have Tiny Homes Added for Rent

Four campsites with tiny homes could be added to the Greenfield Commons in Claysburg. Greg Werstil was on hand at Greenfield Township’s April 4 meeting to discuss the possible project.

The sites would be used to park tiny homes on wheels that could be rented out on a seasonal basis. Werstil said the just under 400-square-foot homes would be ideal for traveling nurses or workers visiting organizations in nearby business parks. Werstil said the homes are similar to recreational vehicles, but would remain parked. The spaces would be marketed on sites like Airbnb.

Supervisors asked if additional campsites may be proposed in the future.

Werstil said this property would be limited to the four new tiny homes, plus the 17 apartments already available, but there are other locations in Blair County where tiny homes are being proposed.

The board will need to determine how the project is classified under ordinance, which may be recreational land development. The developer will also need sewer and water hook-ups.

Supervisors accepted bids for the sale of a generator for $11,600, four used tires for $800, and four directional mirrors for $100 to three separate bidders through an online auction site.

Conditional approval was given to a subdivision plan for property along Knob Road.

Conditional approval was also provided to a subdivision plan for property along Dunnings Highway where a new Dollar General store is proposed. The engineers for the project asked to delay review of the final land development plan until floodplain elevations for the site are adjusted.

The board planned to advertise for bids to complete work on the township building, including the addition of a backup generator. Bids will be reviewed at the township’s regular monthly meeting, May 2.

The township’s clean-up day will be held April 29, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Greenfield Township residents are invited to bring unwanted items to the township garage, located at 477 Ski Gap Road, Claysburg.

Ron Sharkey, police chief, reported that his department will be involved with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 22.

Supervisors adjourned to a closed-door session at the end of the meeting to discuss police personnel matters. Sessions were also held March 16 and 30.
