On Sunday April 2, hundreds of people gathered at Faith Assembly in Roaring Spring for the annual Easter Egg Hunt event. Each year, the event draws families from the Cove community and beyond to join in the spring celebration.
This year, the event lasted for three hours and featured four egg hunts, inflatable bounce houses, animal cuddling, a puppet show, food, and character appearances.
Family Life Pastor Matthew Moushlain has been at Faith Assembly since 2015, and said that the event is the "biggest outreach all year." He added that it has become a "staple" in the community. Based on this year's online preregistration, they had families come from Altoona, Bedford and beyond, drawn by the egg hunt and inflatables. He and the team of volunteers hope to welcome the community and create an environment of "love and acceptance," he said.
"We want to serve and love the community," he said, adding that he and his fellow members at Faith Assembly want to be known as a church that reaches outside its four walls.
Danise Miller, a volunteer who dressed up as the angel at the tomb this year, welcomed kids to help them learn about the Easter story. She and three other volunteers met with little ones around the event and handed them stickers for a booklet as they completed the Easter story timeline.
"With so much division in the world, I want people to be able to see the beauty in the season and [to know] the love of God, that it's real," she said.
Volunteers Jen Morrow, of Hopewell, and Michelle Fedesco, of Martinsburg, discussed how much the event has become a staple to welcome people from all over the area. Fedesco said that the event has been happening for at least 11 years. She added that a lot of people come to Roaring Spring from all over Central PA just for the event.
"I think it's pretty amazing," Morrow said.
