Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
The Dunnings Creek Friends Meeting (Quakers) will present the spring 2023 event in their “Still Listening” guest speaker series on local history in April. Delores “Dee” Marshall Myers of Everett will present The Testimony of a Black Woman: Love Justice Equality relating her experiences growing up and living in the small rural town of Everett.
A lifelong resident born and raised in Everett, Myers tells of growing up under segregation, and of the challenges and changes for black people in rural Pennsylvania from the 1940s through the present day. Myers worked 25 years in her parents’ dry cleaning plant in town, 21 years as assistant general manager at Bob Evans restaurant, and served six years on the Everett Area school board. She will share her first-hand experiences of race relations, personal interactions, and perspectives on community.
The event will be held at the historic Dunnings Creek Friends Meetinghouse (also known as the Old Brick Quaker Church), 285 Old Quaker Church Road, Fishertown, as well as online via Zoom, on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 2 p.m. There is no admission charge. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome, but seating is limited. Email [email protected] for the Zoom link or further info.
