Paul H. Stern, 102, of Martinsburg went to join his Lord and Savior, Tuesday morning, March 21, 2023, at his home.

He was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Martinsburg, son of the late Edgar K. and Eva V. (Stoner) Stern. On Nov. 23, 1946, he married Betty F. Heltzel in Cumberland, MD. She preceded him in death April 19, 2022, following 75 years of marriage.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna J. Bolesta (Ron) of Downingtown; two sons: Gary L. Stern (Anne) and Eddie J. Stern (Lori) both of Martinsburg; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Burns of North Buffalo.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Wayne; infant daughter, Deborah; a sister, Ruth Anna Tharp; and two brothers: Jesse L. Stern and Merle C. Stern.

Paul was a 1939 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg. He worked locally for Feathers Petroleum Gas Station, E.F. Smith Trucking and also drove a school bus during WWII. In 1947, Paul began his longtime career of dairy farming on Agway Road in Martinsburg.

He was a faithful member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where he taught 4th grade Sunday school and served as a trustee and treasurer for several years. Paul was a lifelong student of the Bible, and enjoyed listening to radio Bible teachers and more recently the teachings of Dr. David Jeremiah.

Paul will leave a legacy of being a gentle, humble and hardworking, father and grandfather. He taught many of his grandchildren to ride their bikes, drive cars, mow grass, cut fire wood and many other life skills. Paul was mechanically gifted and fixed many things for his family and neighbors.

He loved watching sports, especially baseball and football with his grandchildren. Paul was also often seen and recognized driving in the Cove, behind the wheel of his 1978 red Ford pickup.

A funeral took place Monday, March 27, 2023, at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church. Pastor Brian McCall, Pastor J. Brant Leidy, and Mr. Daniel Horton officiated. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Memorial contributions in memory of Paul may be given to Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church (Camp Mantowagan) 300 S. Mulberry Street, Martinsburg Pa 16662.
