The symptoms of dry eye disease are well known to many of us and can include some or all of the following: red and watery eyes, a sandy/gritty sensation, blurry vision, burning, and eye fatigue.
These symptoms of dry eye disease occur when the tears are unable to provide proper moisture to the eye’s surface. The tears are comprised of an aqueous (water) layer and a lipid (oil) layer. An abnormality in one or both of the tear components results in inflammation and often damage to the delicate structures of the front of the eye.
