There have been many recent reports of scams going around the area.
Because overuse/addition to cell phone, social media, internet, etc. was the highest ranking challenge identified by residents on the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment, the Healthy Blair County Coalition in collaboration with the Blair County Library System is hosting a series of social media awareness events. Please share with your family, friends, clients, and contacts so they can protect themselves from scams, identify theft, and elder abuse.
Healthy Blair County Coalition will present Fighting Fraud — Social Media Awareness: Protecting Yourself From All The D@mn Scammers. This presentation will include a speaker from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.
Those in attendance will learn how to protect themselves from the top ten scams, identity theft, romance scams, social media 101, and elder abuse during this free program.
Four presentations will take place in April, two in Altoona and the other two in Martinsburg.
On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, two sessions will take place at the Blair County Convention Center, 1 Convention Center Drive, Altoona. The first will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the second from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Thursday, April 27, 2023, two sessions will take place at the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park Event Center, 201 S Walnut St, Martinsburg. The first will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the second from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
