Dragon Basketball Soars Above Competition

The Dragons faced two opponents this week en route to securing a playoff spot with the end of the regular season fast approaching. A 69-49 victory over the Bishop Carroll Huskies and a 58-37 victory over the Richland Rams propelled the Dragons to an 18-1 record, along with a guaranteed spot in the playoffs.

Against the Huskies, a high-scoring first half left the Dragons with a three-point lead after the first quarter, followed by a 30-29 lead at half. A less-than-stellar offensive half for the Dragons forced them to rely on defense and rebounding to keep the edge in the game. After the half, the Dragons pulled ahead on the offensive game, outscoring the Huskies by 14 in the third quarter and by five in the fourth. Seth Bean connected on eight three-pointers to total 34 points in the Dragon victory. Eli Lingenfelter added 19, while Eli Muthler had 12 to round out the Dragons' offense.

The Central JV team also had a victory with a score of 52-42.

Against the Rams, the game started off incredibly slow by the Dragons standards. The first quarter totaled a mere 13 points between both teams, with the Dragons up by one. The Dragons' defensive intensity in the second quarter propelled their offense, leading to 21 points scored for a 28-11 halftime lead. The Dragons kept the pressure up, outscoring the Rams by two in both the third and fourth quarter for another victory. Lingenfelter led with 25 points along with five three-pointers. Bean also added 16 points in the victory.

The JV team suffered a 43-36 loss. High scorers were Nick Garver and Kyle Klotz with eight points each.

With the end of the regular season quickly approaching, the Dragons prepare to face their last few opponents with the Chestnut Ridge Lions and the Central Cambria Red Devils.
