‘Her Heart’s Desire’ Shelley Shepard Gray

Mary Margaret, Lilly, and Betsy meet on the bus on the way to Pinecraft, Florida. The three wallflowers of their Amish communities soon become fast friends as they enjoy their time on vacation and makes plans for how their lives will be different when they go home. They share secrets with each other that they have never told anyone before, but Mary Margaret still feels that she must hold a few things back from her new friends.

When Mary Margaret meets Jayson, a handsome young Amish carpenter, she realizes she has feelings she’s never had before. Jayson is also taken with her immediately, but like Mary Margaret, he has secrets and obligations from his home in Kentucky that haunt him.

It seems like the perfect vacation until Mary Margaret’s worst fear comes to Florida in the form of Esther, another young woman from her community. Esther has made Mary Margaret’s life miserable for years, but when she comes to Mary Margaret with a repentant heart, Mary Margaret has to decide how to proceed. She is even more confused when Jayson reveals what he has been keeping from her, a secret that throws everything thought she knew right out the window.

Can Mary Margaret learn to forgive these two people who have hurt her so deeply?

This is a lovely story of friendship, self-discovery, resilience, forgiveness and love. It is the first in Gray’s new series, “A Season in Pinecraft.”
