Due to the increased costs of food, heating oil, and medicine, Claysburg-Kimmel's Future Business Leaders of America Chapter has created a community service project for the 2022-23 school year. "Serving Seniors" has been created by Emma Gill, Erica Norotsky, and Launa Musselman to help defray costs for senior citizens in the area.
During the month of December, Claysburg-Kimmel's students participated in a fruit basket delivery. On Sunday, Dec. 18, CK FBLA members, parents, and community members delivered 50 fruit baskets to local churches in the Claysburg community and the surrounding areas. Included in the fruit baskets were apples, pears, halo oranges, grapefruits, oranges, and Christmas candies.
With the support of the Claysburg community and local businesses, Serving Seniors has distributed a total of $2,700 in heating oil and $1000 in gift cards for medicines. Future plans are to distribute more funds for heat, medicine, and food. We also will be holding a soup sale January 14 to raise money for our community service project.
Several local businesses and organizations have partnered with "Serving Seniors" with generous donations. They include NPC, Inc., Claar's Notary, Troy Swindell Trucking, Women of The ELCA, Salvation Army, Thrivent, and Brenda Marriner.
