On Wednesday night, the Claysburg Lady Bulldogs defeated the Mount Union Trojans 41-37. Despite being down a starter, the Bulldogs still started off strong going into the first and second quarters, and at halftime, Claysburg had a solid 14-point lead as the Trojans lagged behind. However, the game wasn’t over yet, and despite the Bulldogs’ best efforts, Mount Union managed to even the score late in the fourth quarter. According to Claysburg’s head coach, James Garver, “[The Lady Bulldogs] let a big lead slip away, and Mount Union tied the game at 37 with about 1:00 left.” With very little time left on the clock, Claysburg worked hard offensively. Coach Garver highlighted the performance of several of his players, including “Chelsie Noah [who] made the go-ahead layup with about a minute left and Bella Francona [who] sealed [the win] with another layup to set the final score.” It was a close game, and Garver said, “[he] was very proud of the girls for not losing their composure and still pulling out the win.” Senior Sarah Helsel was the Bulldog’s high scorer of the night with “a career-high of 32 points.”
