Martinsburg
Donald R. Smith, 99, of Martinsburg, passed away Sunday evening, December 18, 2022, at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.
He was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Martinsburg, son of the late G. Clair and Elda N. (Bossler) Smith. On Nov. 26, 1950, he married Mary L. Acker and she preceded him death on August 25, 1976, after 25 years of marriage.
He is survived by seven children: Annamae Storbeck (Martin Gayton) of Austin, Tx; Lottie D. Ebersole (Stephen) of rural Martinsburg; Cindy M. Snyder (Richard) of Martinsburg; Titus P. Smith (Beverly) of Martinsburg; Lee D. Smith (Pam) of rural Martinsburg; Joel M. Smith of rural Martinsburg; and Luella R. Stern (Dan Newcomer) of Martinsburg; a daughter-in-law: Jeannie Smith of rural Martinsburg; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Genive E. Underwood of Martinsburg.
Donald was preceded in death by son, Max D. Smith; a great-grandson, Vincent Reimer; two sisters: Beatrice N. Slick and S. Madeline Goldberg; and five brothers: Dr. Harold E., Elwood R., James S., Marion B., and George E. Smith.
He was a 1940 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School and went on to be a lifelong dairy farmer at Smith Hollow Farms in rural Martinsburg.
Donald was a life member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, and the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. He previously was a board member for the Atlantic Breeders Co-Op.
Farming was Donald’s favorite thing do and he continued to make daily trips to farm even after his retirement. He was an avid reader of farming publications and journals, but most of all enjoyed reading his Bible. Donald loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. Pastor Traci Marriott will be officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
