Depositors Learn About Money

Herald of Dec. 16, 1897

The first anniversary of the failures of the Martinsburg Deposit Bank and the First National Bank of Hollidaysburg was observed on the 14th, inst., by the sitting of Auditor Neff, and the gathering of the creditors to distribute the money in the hands of the assignee. A large number of depositors were present to learn if possible where their money had gone.

The weather clerk was a little behind time with his Monday rain, which did not reach us until Tuesday, much to the relief of the washday brigade. Probably he held back the shower in order to dampen the spirit of the bank audit.

The milk house at the county almshouse was invaded by thieves Tuesday night last and was despoiled of 30 pounds of butter, a quarter of beef and some cream.

The joint consistory of the Hickory Bottom charge of the Reformed church met in the Mt. Pleasant church. The object of the meeting was to secure a pastor for the charge, and a minister will be on hand in the near future.
