On Saturday, Dec. 10, Martinsburg Church of God will be hosting a Christmas tree giveaway. This year, the church will have 30 trees and 30 turkeys to give away.
This event is the fifth of its kind; the first two were held at Woodbury Church of God and the third and fourth at Martinsburg.
This year, the tree supplier is donating the trees for free, which allowed the church to purchase turkeys to donate as well.
The church thanks Ritchey’s Dairy and Kline’s Nursery for their assistance.
The giveaway will start at 2 p.m. at Martinsburg Church of God in the parking lot off Market Street. It’s a first-come-first-serve basis.
Church members will also be available to help load trees into vehicles.
There will be Christmas music, cookies and hot chocolate.
Pastor Jim Shaffer references John 3:16 every year, saying the church gives away these trees because “God’s love is free.”
Shaffer also references Romans 5:8 and Philippians 2:8, saying “The price for this gift was already paid.”
“This is a free gift,” Shaffer said. “Just like God’s salvation is a free gift to all of us.”
