At the Nov. 15 Williamsburg Community School Board's meeting, Elementary Principal Jennifer Metzler spoke on many activities taking place at the elementary school:
• Parent-teacher conferences took place Nov. 21 and 22.
• The elementary student council members are also organizing a sock drive to collect socks for the homeless shelter.
• Mrs. Laughlin, the district's social worker, and members of the Kindness Club planned activities for World Kindness Week. Each day, a new kindness challenge is announced. An Appreciation Station was set up in the cafeteria to encourage students to write a thank-you note telling someone why they appreciate them. A Kindness Tree is in the hallway for students to write acts of kindness on the leaves.
High School Principal Jennifer Frederick also discussed upcoming events:
• A positivity assembly, sponsored by the National Guard and entitled "Bring Your A-Game," was held for the whole district.
• The first speech meet of the year was held at the high school on Nov. 3 with the district competing against both Tyrone and Juniata Valley.
• A blood drive was held on Nov. 7. A total of 22 units of blood were collected and 7 first-time donors participated.
• Meet the Pirate Night was held on Saturday, Nov. 19, as were parent-teacher conferences.
The School Board approved a contract with Big Teams Software at a cost of $1,000. The Board also approved the installation of two basketball scoreboards.
